Chief Afe Babalola once suggested that Education should be made an essential service that cannot attract industrial action.I totally support this.
While I totally condemn the poor funding of our universities and poor welfare of academics,be it known that these strike actions are becoming too incessant, outrageous and ultimately defeating the essence of your career as contributors to knowledge.
You are what you are today because of good facilities and uninterrupted academic calendars. Mind you,as teachers,you are contributing to the progress or retrogression of humanity through your actions and inactions. What goes around comes around,the lives you touch will touch several others and you never can say in what far distance or on whose lives your touches might be felt.
No doubt ,Nigeria is in a mess due to bad leadership.Our country has been plagued by corrupt and dishonest leaders. Successive administrations have left heritage of corruption and endemic bad governance. But will two wrongs ever make a right,not at all.
ASUU,I implore you,do not go on strike.These children are the little hope we have left for the future. I have read your analogy of the bad vehicle,the driver and the passengers. It’s a good analogy and it is reasonable and logical,but please see what you can do.Shelf this action,it is always counterproductive, we are producing graduates who cannot cope with the manpower needs of the country.
Please,don’t go!
